The Board of Directors has named Tess McColgan as the new Executive Director for Discover Gloucester, the city of Gloucester Destination Marketing Organization. McColgan’s associated background, combined with her innate passion for community collaboration, were just a couple of her attributes essential to keeping the organization’s momentum while advancing its mission and purpose.

“We are delighted to welcome Tess as our new Executive Director,” says Michelle Williams, Discover Gloucester’s Board Chair. “We expect that she’ll bring her unwavering enthusiasm, strong communication skills, and positive energy to our already vibrant community. Discover Gloucester remains steadfast as a vital tourism destination marketing partner and we look forward to Ms. McColgan’s contributions to that end, as we continue our successful endeavors and initiatives.”

McColgan assumes the role on May 10, managing all day-to-day operations as Gloucester’s DMO, recognized for its innovative promotions, marketing concepts and campaigns. McColgan will also lead Discover Gloucester’s seasonal engagement programs, as well as its purposeful marketing and community initiatives. “I am very excited about the possibilities of stepping into this position and supporting the necessary energy and dedication to Gloucester’s flourishing tourism industry!” says McColgan.

McColgan has fostered a career in community-based programming within the Boston area. Her experience in municipal development as a Program Manager at Roslindale Village Main Streets demonstrates her capability to handle multiple projects while promoting district businesses, events, and local establishments. She directed successful outreach efforts, bringing her experience with state and local officials, non-profit organizations, and the business community to bear. She most recently worked for the Beverly Council on Aging managing multiple programs and working with organizations to nurture community support. Tess’s knowledge in event planning, while piloting social media and website platforms, expressly caught the eye of Discover Gloucester’s Search Committee.

“We have the utmost confidence in Tess, that she will continue the resolute commitment to excellence, bring her excitement to our community, and encourage the convivial, collaborative, and professional spirit for which Discover Gloucester is celebrated,” says Michael DeKoster, Vice Chair of Discover Gloucester.

McColgan succeeds Executive Director Elizabeth Carey, who assumed the role in June 2016. Through Carey’s creative, expansive experience and professionalism, Discover Gloucester enhanced its commanding influence throughout the region, driving unique and authentic experiences with impressive engagement, growth and influence.
