May 28th is International Hamburger Day and what better way to celebrate than exploring the burger scene in Gloucester and Cape Ann? To say that burgers are a popular American food would be a huge understatement. In fact, statistics show that Americans eat over 50 billion hamburgers annually!

The Gloucester House

Located at 63 Rogers Street on the historic Seven Seas Wharf, the Gloucester House has a full menu including lobster dishes and fresh local seafood specialties. But in addition to their North Atlantic caught seafood, they also offer chicken and steak dishes as well as a few burger options. 

The Gloucester House Burger is served with maple bacon, bleu cheese, and caramelized onions. Choose from sides that include salad, cole slaw, sweet potato fries, or french fries. For vegetarians, the Veggie Burger is delicious and served on a brioche roll with lettuce and tomato.

1606 Restaurant and Oyster Bar 

Located inside the Beauport Hotel at 55 Commercial Street, the 1606 Restaurant and Oyster Bar not only offers a raw bar, local seafood entrees, and pasta dishes but also a few options for those who love burgers. 

The Harvest Burger comes with horseradish aioli, crisp bacon, Granny Smith apple, and brie. The 1606 Burger is topped with Chiffonade Romaine, vine-ripe tomato, sliced red onion, aged cheddar, crispy bacon, and the House Sauce. Pair one of these with one of their many sides and your craving for a burger meal will be satisfied. Some of their sides include maple-glazed carrots, crispy Brussels sprouts, foraged mushrooms, root vegetable hash, broccolini, or roasted potatoes.

Oak To Ember 

Located at 9 Rogers Street in Gloucester, Oak To Ember for a comprehensive menu that includes seafood such as scallops, oysters, a raw bar, calamari, shrimp and so much more. They also offer starters, salads, specialty pasta dishes, and of course, the star of the day a burger. 

The Smoked Oak Burger is seven ounces of House Ground Brisket Blend, topped with American cheese, onion, pickles, and sauce and served with a side of house-cut fries.

Located on the waterfront at Cape Ann Marina, Mile Marker One is a popular restaurant that offers not only waterside dining but also locally caught seafood, appetizers, soups, salads, oysters, lobster, and sides. 

The Grass Fed Burger includes beefsteak tomato, shredded lettuce, M1M sauce, and a toasted brioche roll. Add Vermont cheddar or cider brine bacon, fried egg, or avocado to taste. Sides include Herb Mashed Potatoes, Grilled Asparagus, crisp Brussels sprouts & peppadews, french fries, M1M Coleslaw, or a side Caesar salad. 

Seaport Grille

Located at 6 Rowe Square in Gloucester, Seaport Grille also has a mouthwatering menu. From lobster rolls to Haddock sandwiches, the Seaport Grille is known for its fresh seafood but also offers some burger options for its patrons. 

The “6 Row(deo) Square Burger” named for the street on which the restaurant stands, includes BBQ Pulled Pork, Pepper Jack Cheese, Crispy Onion Strings, and a Brioche roll. For cheese lovers, the Sully’s Bacon Cheeseburger includes lettuce, tomato, onion, bacon, American cheese, and a Brioche roll.
