Built during the Revolutionary War, this elegant Georgian residence was home to early feminist Judith Sargent Murray, who penned “On the Equality of the Sexes” in 1791. View period furnishings and works by Fitz Henry Lane and John Singer Sargent in this splendid house overlooking Gloucester’s Main Street. Open Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Memorial Day through Columbus Day, noon to 4:00 pm with tours on the hour with admission fee. Special events this year mark the centennial of the house as a museum.
