CAMTalks: History Series Bringing the Kalevala to Life

March 12, 2022 @ 1:00 pm

Join Carly Dwyer of Intramersive Media LLC to talk about the Finnish national epic: the Kalevala, the Finnish experience in Cape Ann, and the power of mythmaking in cultural identity. Carly and her team have spent the past several months developing “Runo in the Rock,” a celebratory reflection on the cultural contributions of the Finns in Cape Ann combined with the stories of the Kalevala and its role in the Finnish identity. During this research, she has read the Kalevala, translated by the Natti family, and interviewed members of this multi-generational Finnish-American family on Cape Ann.
Carly Dwyer is an Adjunct Professor of Game Design in the Art and Design Department at Northeastern University with a background in folklore, anthropology, performance, and education. “Runo in the Rock” will be presented at the Cape Ann Museum on Saturday, March 26, 2022. Tickets now available.
This conversational lecture will be open for questions both before and during the session.
