Deidre McCalla and Joe Jencks

April 26 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm

Deidre McCalla – a Black woman, mother, lesbian, feminist – has long been in the forefront of Black musicians expanding the understanding of how Black folk can do folk. She learned at an early age that life begins with an acoustic guitar, and her songwriting reveals an unyieldingly honest perspective expressed with a lyric touch that relentlessly celebrates the power and diversity of the human spirit.
Joe Jencks is a 25-year veteran of the international folk circuit, an award-winning songwriter, and a celebrated vocalist. Merging conservatory training with his Irish roots and working-class upbringing, Joe delivers engaged musical narratives filled with heart, soul, groove and grit. Having penned several #1 folksongs including the ever-relevant Lady of The Harbor, Jencks was also a co-founder of the harmony trio, Brother Sun.

The performance will take place at 7:30pm in the handicap-accessible Fellowship Hall of the First Congregational Church of Rockport, 12 School St. Advance tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for those age 18 and under. Visit oldslooppresents.org, John Tarr Store in Rockport, or The Bookstore of Gloucester. The suggested contribution at the door is $25 for adults, $5 for those age 18 and under, and $50 for families.
