DESCRIPTION:The Marvin Waller Retrospective at the North Shore Arts Association celebrates the life and legacy of Cape Ann fine artist\, Marvin Waller (1928–1994). Born in Chicago\, and ultimately settling in Rockport\, Massachusetts in 1959\, Waller produced numerous drawings\, woodcuts\, and paintings inspired by his life on Cape Ann and informed by his training in drawing the figure. This premier exhibition showcases Waller’s extensive body of work and brings renewed attention to his life commitment to the arts on display May 29 – June 20\, 2026. All are welcome to attend the reception on Saturday\, May 30\, from 1PM – 3PM. Located at 11 Pirates Ln\, Gloucester MA 01930. Hours: Tuesday – Saturday 10am – 5pm\, Sunday 12 – 4pm\, Monday CLOSED. DESCRIPTION:‘Rhythm and Rhyme’ is a juried exhibition showcasing work inspired by music or musical lyrics at the Cultural Center at Rocky Neck. The structural pattern of music\, including melody\, harmony\, tempo\, and texture\, has long been a muse for the visual arts. A song’s lyric quality may also evoke powerful imagery and stir the imagination. SUMMARY:Play as Practice\, Exhibit at Cove Gallery
DESCRIPTION:‘Play as Practice’ is a five-artist exhibition which explores the relationship between formal work and studio play. The show brings together works by Pratt\, Marino\, Isabel Bacon\, Margaret Sweet\, and Julia Von Metzsch\, five painters whose studio practices each walk the line between abstraction and representation. \nSketches\, collages\, and experimental work are shown alongside finished pieces to open a conversation about how these parallel processes inform one another. Collectively\, the artists bring significant exhibition histories\, gallery representation\, museum shows\, and work held in private and corporate collections nationwide. \n‘Play as Practice’ will be on view at Cove Gallery in Gloucester from May 21 through June 21\, 2026. Gallery hours are Thursday-Saturday\, 12-7pm and Sunday-Monday\, 12-5pm. \nAn opening reception will be held on Thursday\, May 21 from 5-7pm.
