DESCRIPTION:IN 2008\, NORAH JONES\, SASHA DOBSON\, AND CATHERINE POPPER FORMED PUSS N BOOTS. \nInitially it was a vehicle for Jones and Dobson to play music together and try new things\, with Popper joining on bass shortly after. The trio played various New York clubs\, with a repertoire anchored in Americana\, country\, folk\, pop and rock. The band became an outlet for Jones\, Dobson and Popper to switch instruments\, and allowed them to showcase a different side of themselves than in their various solo and side projects. \nIn 2013\, some five years after the group began playing\, they signed with Blue Note Records and set out to assemble their debut record. Comprised of originals and covers\, studio recordings and live performances\, that debut was called No Fools\, No Fun. Released in the summer of 2014\, it was supported by a tour of the U.S. \nIn 2019\, the trio took the stage at the MusiCares charity event honoring Person of the Year Award recipient Dolly Parton\, and performed Parton’s “The Grass Is Blue”. Later that year Jones\, Dobson\, and Popper released their holiday album Dear Santa\, followed by their 2nd full length album Sister in 2020.

DESCRIPTION:Cape Ann Shakespeare Troupe (CAST) kicks off its 2026-27 season with Laugh Out Loud. Shakespeare’s quote “Prepare for mirth\, for mirth becomes a feast.” aptly describes this feast of modern one-act comedies: Base Model Man and Who Ate the Cheetos? by Kevin Perrin of the Gloucester Writers Center\, and Black Comedy by Peter Shaffer. \nBase Model Man\, directed by Alexis Armstrong\, imagines a dealership where a woman shops for the perfect man with available upgrades such as “willing to share housework” and “actually listens”. Directed by Billy Lewand\, Who Ate the Cheetos? is an eight minute comedy in which a simple family mystery erupts into a full-blown courtroom style confrontation a la A Few Good Men. In the classic farce Black Comedy\, directed by Mark Efinger\, a young artist and his fiancée secretly furnish their apartment with a neighbor’s expensive antiques before meeting her intimidating military father. When the electricity fails and unexpected guests arrive – a suspicious neighbor\, a nervous spinster\, a talkative electrician\, and an old girlfriend—the comic chaos escalates. \nPerforming from November 5th-8th and 12th-15th\, all performances are at The Natti-Willsky Performance Center: Home of Gloucester Stage Company\, 267 East Main Street\, Gloucester. DESCRIPTION:The Great Marsh Starts Here! A Living Landscape in Motion brings together artists from the Great Marsh Artists Fellowship for an exhibition celebrating three years of artistic exploration\, collaboration\, and engagement with one of New England’s most significant coastal landscapes. \nThe exhibition features work by artists who have participated in the Great Marsh Artists Fellowship\, a program created to support artists in developing new projects inspired by the Great Marsh\, its natural and man-made history and significance\, as well as its beauty and immediate fragility. Over the past three years\, 22 artists have been selected as Great Marsh Artist Fellows and have dedicated themselves to creating 24 projects that connect art\, ecology\, history\, science\, and community. Some have been completed and presented to the community\, others are still underway. \nThe exhibition brings together work by 18 of the 22 Great Marsh Artists Fellows including Resa Blatman\, Gail Boyajian\, Marcia Ciro\, Robert J. Bradshaw\, Michele Brody\, Anne Eder\, Karen Futral\, Isaac Grenader\, Robert Honstein\, Jenn Houle\, Amy Kaczur\, Andrea LeBlanc\, Susan Quateman\, Katie Pustizzi\, Norah Solorzano\, Erika Sutter\, and Alex Young. \nThe work presented moves across artistic disciplines and mediums—from painting\, photography\, and sculpture to video\, book art\, music\, animation\, and dance—revealing the many ways a living landscape can be seen\, experienced\, interpreted\, and expressed. \nThe exhibition marks an important milestone in a partnership that began with The Great Marsh Concert in 2023\, a collaboration between Manship Artists Residency and Artists for the Great Marsh. The concert brought artists and members of the Great Marsh community together around a shared interest in the landscape and its future. That initial collaboration led to the formation of the Great Marsh Artists Fellowship\, which provides $2\,000 grants to artists to develop projects that premiere at organizations and institutions connected to the Great Marsh. \nNovember 6 – 22\, 2026\nGallery Hours: Friday–Sunday\, 12–5 pm\nOpening Reception: November 7\, 4-6 pm\, Cultural Center at Rocky Neck\, Gloucester\, MA\nSome of the artwork will be for sale. \nAdmission: Donations gratefully accepted to the FREE exhibition. DESCRIPTION:Local Colors Artist Cooperative to Celebrate 37 Years on Main Street\nOn Friday\, November 6\, 2026\, from 6 to 8 p.m.\, Local Colors Artists’ Cooperative invites the\npublic to join in celebrating its 37th anniversary. Since 1989\, Local Colors has operated as an\nongoing center for creativity and commerce in downtown Gloucester.\nWhat does it take for a relatively small business to endure for nearly 4 decades? For Local\nColors’ member artists\, it means taking on the collective responsibility of maintaining a gallery\nand staying active on the Cape Ann art scene while upholding a commitment to their respective\nart forms.\nFor thirty-seven years!\nLocal Colors may defy the categorization of gallery or gift shop. For all of its years\, it has\nsupported artists’ growth in their art and in their business skills. One member\, well-known\nstained-glass artist Donna Amero\, is a founding member. At a recent meeting of the group\, she\,\nstated\, “We are not specifically a gallery or a gift shop. We’re an artists’ cooperative.” Kathy\nBucholska\, jeweler and mixed media artist added\, “As a 36-year member\, I am grateful to have\nhad the opportunity to develop my artistic skills here. It has been wonderful to have an outlet\nfor my jewelry and to expand into mixed media pieces using stones\, fossils\, and found objects.”\nNewer artist\, weaver Susan Alvey appreciates the creative blending involved in an artist\ncooperative. “As artists\, we usually work alone\, but a cooperative provides a supportive\ncommunity that is greater than we could create on our own.” The current membership of Local\nColors spans a wide range of media\, techniques\, subjects\, styles\, and attitudes\, and each artist\nbrings their own way of seeing to his/her chosen medium. DESCRIPTION:Jeffrey Gaines has been heralded for his soul-searching lyrics and his powerful live performances. \nWith only his voice and a guitar for accompaniment\, Gaines has earned a reputation as a captivating performer\, entertaining his audiences worldwide. \nThroughout his three-decade recording career\, Gaines has maintained an impressive standard for soul-searching\, introspective lyrics and catchy\, uplifting melodies. Since bursting on the scene with his self-titled 1992 debut album\, the charismatic singer-songwriter-guitarist has built a beloved body of recordings that’s won him a large and deeply devoted international fan base. He has sold out theaters and clubs throughout North America and Europe. With his compelling live performances gaining high respect\, Gaines was asked to join tours as support act for Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers in Europe\, Tracy Chapman\, and Stevie Nicks with Sheryl Crow\, among others. He will be supporting Roger Daltry on his upcoming tour. \nGaines landed his first record deal shortly after graduating from high school\, and in 1992 released his widely acclaimed debut album Jeffrey Gaines. The eponymous disc won massive amounts of critical and audience acclaim\, spawning the hit “Hero in Me.” Somewhat Slightly Dazed (1994) and Galore (1998) further expanded his audience. Interview magazine described Gaines’ work as “soul-searching” and “refreshingly free of jargon\, sentiment or cliché.” \nIn 2001\, Gaines’ release Always Be yielded a surprise hit in his deeply felt interpretation of Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes”; 2003’s Toward the Sun attracted even more critical accolades\, with Mojo praising the “soul-folkie’s sexy growl” and The Boston Globe declaring that “Gaines’ soulful\, wounded vocals make a case for his being one of pop’s finest singers.” Toward the Sun was followed by a pair of live albums\, the 2004 CD/DVD Jeffrey Gaines Live and 2012’s Live in Europe\, which reflected the deep and abiding rapport that Gaines has with his fans. In 2018\, Gaines released his eighth studio album\, Alright. The album was recorded in Los Angeles with Chris Price\, Val McCallum and Elvis Costello’s Imposters\, Pete Thomas and Davey Faragher. \n“The biggest pleasure I derive from this is playing live\,” Gaines notes. “There’s nothing more satisfying for me than a good live gig. Along the way\, Chris will share insights into the ecology\, habitat\, and role of these plants in the local environment. \nThe walk offers an opportunity to develop a closer understanding of our natural landscape while learning skills that can be applied year-round in backyards\, gardens\, parks\, and woodlands. \nParticipants should meet at the Plum Cove School parking lot by 9 a.m. The event is free\, but advance registration is required. A Living Landscape in Motion brings together artists from the Great Marsh Artists Fellowship for an exhibition celebrating three years of artistic exploration\, collaboration\, and engagement with one of New England’s most significant coastal landscapes. \nThe exhibition features work by artists who have participated in the Great Marsh Artists Fellowship\, a program created to support artists in developing new projects inspired by the Great Marsh\, its natural and man-made history and significance\, as well as its beauty and immediate fragility. Over the past three years\, 22 artists have been selected as Great Marsh Artist Fellows and have dedicated themselves to creating 24 projects that connect art\, ecology\, history\, science\, and community. Some have been completed and presented to the community\, others are still underway. \nThe exhibition brings together work by 18 of the 22 Great Marsh Artists Fellows including Resa Blatman\, Gail Boyajian\, Marcia Ciro\, Robert J. Bradshaw\, Michele Brody\, Anne Eder\, Karen Futral\, Isaac Grenader\, Robert Honstein\, Jenn Houle\, Amy Kaczur\, Andrea LeBlanc\, Susan Quateman\, Katie Pustizzi\, Norah Solorzano\, Erika Sutter\, and Alex Young. \nThe work presented moves across artistic disciplines and mediums—from painting\, photography\, and sculpture to video\, book art\, music\, animation\, and dance—revealing the many ways a living landscape can be seen\, experienced\, interpreted\, and expressed. \nThe exhibition marks an important milestone in a partnership that began with The Great Marsh Concert in 2023\, a collaboration between Manship Artists Residency and Artists for the Great Marsh. The concert brought artists and members of the Great Marsh community together around a shared interest in the landscape and its future. DESCRIPTION:Cape Ann Shakespeare Troupe (CAST) kicks off its 2026-27 season with Laugh Out Loud. Shakespeare’s quote “Prepare for mirth\, for mirth becomes a feast.” aptly describes this feast of modern one-act comedies: Base Model Man and Who Ate the Cheetos? by Kevin Perrin of the Gloucester Writers Center\, and Black Comedy by Peter Shaffer. \nBase Model Man\, directed by Alexis Armstrong\, imagines a dealership where a woman shops for the perfect man with available upgrades such as “willing to share housework” and “actually listens”. Directed by Billy Lewand\, Who Ate the Cheetos? is an eight minute comedy in which a simple family mystery erupts into a full-blown courtroom style confrontation a la A Few Good Men. In the classic farce Black Comedy\, directed by Mark Efinger\, a young artist and his fiancée secretly furnish their apartment with a neighbor’s expensive antiques before meeting her intimidating military father. When the electricity fails and unexpected guests arrive – a suspicious neighbor\, a nervous spinster\, a talkative electrician\, and an old girlfriend—the comic chaos escalates. \nPerforming from November 5th-8th and 12th-15th\, all performances are at The Natti-Willsky Performance Center: Home of Gloucester Stage Company\, 267 East Main Street\, Gloucester. Internationally\, she’s headlined the The Celtic Connections Festival in Scotland and the Tonder Festival in Denmark. She’s the winner of some of the top songwriting awards\, including the Grand Prize in the John Lennon Songwriting Competition\, the prestigious Kerrville (TX) “Best New Folk Award” and\, in one of the nation’s top music markets\, the Boston Music Award for “Outstanding Folk Act”\, three of the top prizes in the singer songwriter world. \nSinger-songwriter\, Antje Duvekot is poised to unveil her fifth studio album\, “New Wild West”\, on September 15th. According to Duvekot\, this collection of songs marks the pivotal juncture of mid-life and represents a new rung on the ladder of healing from trauma. The songs on “New Wild West” signal a genuine shift in Duvekot’s relationship with some of the enduring themes she has grappled with over the years. “On the whole”\, says Duvekot\, “my older songs sought to disarm trauma by bluntly acknowledging its destabilizing nature and creating a space in which to exist with that sensation\, both for myself and my audiences. In contrast\, the newer songs have the teeth and tenacity to openly confront and defy trauma. As such\, I feel very warmly towards this collection of songs. They are long overdue dissidents”. Duvekot’s amplified voice in mid-life carries a protective fierceness that resonates across the album. Songs like “Girl on a Wire” and “Evolution” salute the perseverance we all apply to our human journey towards finding our voice. Duvekot says of hers\, “I crawled into music as a protective vessel when I was a teenager. It lent me safety and allowed me to stay open and let in more continuous sunlight than I could have\, otherwise. I want to pay back that loan. Many of the songs on ‘New Wild West’ do that”. \nThe album “New Wild West” came to fruition through the collaboration of Duvekot and esteemed New England singer-songwriter Mark Erelli after a joint tour inspired the idea. Over the course of a year\, Duvekot recorded most vocals from her home\, while Erelli laid down the majority of instrumentation and production in his basement studio with notable guest performances by Seth Glier\, Robby Hecht\, Winnie Horan\, John Gorka\, Richard Shindell\, and Kenny White. The tracks were mixed and mastered in Woodstock. Consistent with the album’s central theme of pushing beyond comfort zones and embracing new frontiers\, the cover art was generated by an AI\, which Duvekot admits made her considerably uncomfortable at first: “The AI-generated image is evocative and uncannily fitting\, yet I was uneasy about its non-human origin. In the end\, I could not resist the poetry behind that discomfort\, given the theme of the album!” \n“New Wild West” is lush with the poignant poetry that is the hallmark of every Antje Duvekot release. The album’s title track\, “New Wild West\,” encourages someone in a historical position of privilege to accept impending progress with a gently patronizing sense of sympathy. “Open Waters” espouses authenticity and bravery\, in contrast to “[those who] have volunteered to be chained by fear. From one pioneer to another: it’s not that we aren’t scared\, but I’ll meet you there\, out in the open waters.” “Girl on a Wire” revisits a tightrope metaphor that once ran through Duvekot’s 2009 song “Vertigo\,” where the protagonist feared “I will break all my bones; I lied about the Vertigo.” In “Girl\,” the protagonist\, instead\, “walks a tightrope in the eye of the storm…I am the girl who out-dared gravity…you can keep your Phoenix and SpaceX and Richard Branson\, this is me flying\, this is me dancing.” The opening track on the album\, “Evolution\,” echoes a similar sentiment\, celebrating growth (and literal evolution) and inviting us to “marvel at how far we came since the early dog days of our prehistoric dawn. Back when the phases of the moon were still just phrases without a tune…But I see you now and Holy cow\, look at you now.” \nThe piano track\, “Dylan Thomas (1996-1998)\,” was inspired by Duvekot passing by the gravestone of a two-year-old inside a cemetery while on tour. In it\, she gives thanks for the grace of time: “I know now what I owe\, and I shall speak it in your name. It’s to drink freely from that well and not dwell one more day in the walls of shame.” Moving past self-pity into ownership\, she declares “I am no unlucky one.” Some thematically stand-alone tracks include “Anwesenheit\,” an Earth Day song commissioned by the Goethe Institute\, and “Lottery Ticket\,” written on assignment for a podcast. Additionally\, there’s the sultry “Traces\,” which describes the romantic chemistry felt across a telephone line while dating during Covid. \nYet another testament to the powerhouse that is Antje Duvekot\, “New Wild West” is a sonic and lyrical knockout that marks a newly blazed trail in Duvekot’s songwriting career\, celebrating the mid-life transition into a greater sense of self. As always\, Duvekot deftly captures the essence of the collective journey that is the human condition\, and Mark Erelli hits it home with exquisitely executed musical orchestration. \nDan Bern\nDan Bern is a captivating live performer who has enthralled a loyal and ever-growing fan base in the US and Europe since the mid ‘90s. His songs range from deeply moving to wildly imaginative and hilarious\, often within the same song. \nHe has been compared favorably to the great masters of songwriting\, such as Guthrie\, Dylan\, Costello. Though he draws from the great American tradition of songwriting\, there is something deeply unique and compelling that make you want to get to know the man behind the songs. \nHe conjures incredibly specific imagery like in a painting.
