SUMMARY:CAM Studio Art: Design and Print the Folly Cove Way
DESCRIPTION:Step into the spirit of the legendary Folly Cove Designers and learn the art of block printing with artist Mary Rhinelander in this four-week course. This class blends design fundamentals\, creative play\, and the rich history of Cape Ann’s iconic design collective. Referencing her unpublished book\, Design and How\, you’ll explore the principles of design that Virginia Lee Demetrios taught her students—selecting a theme and exploring it deeply through clarity of line\, rhythm\, repetition\, and pattern—and you will discover how her timeless ideas can elevate your own artistic voice. Each week builds your confidence as you sketch\, carve\, and print your way towards an original finished artwork. \nPlease note: This class has four sessions. \nMary Rhinelander is a professional artist with an MFA in printmaking. Gloucester is in her DNA\, starting with great-grandparents who spent summers on Eastern Point. She lives in East Gloucester\, in a yellow clapboard house once known as “The Summer Art House” where painter Theresa Bernstein and her painter/printmaker husband\, William Meyerowitz\, spent many decades (starting in 1924). Having purchased her home directly from their estate\, William’s etching press is still happily living in the sun-filled basement studio. Mary has had many solo and group shows and her work is in both public and private collections. She has painted murals\, designed logos and book covers\, illustrated for a variety of publications\, and taught students of all ages. In 2004 she founded Mermade Press\, a fine art card business. With a deep affinity for the Folly Cove Designers and Virginia Lee Demetrios in particular\, it has been Mary’s great pleasure to bring block printing workshops into Cape Ann’s public schools with the support of CAM and the Gloucester Education Foundation.

SUMMARY:Artful Conversations: John Sloan’s “Scavenger Rocks”
DESCRIPTION:Join Us Mid-Day for Artful Conversations \nTake a midday pause and experience one work of art in depth. \nArtful Conversations are informal\, docent-led gallery experiences that invite visitors to slow down\, look closely\, and engage in thoughtful conversation. Each session features a work of art or object that is new to view—whether a recent acquisition or a work newly installed in the galleries. \nThe program begins in the Education Room at our Downtown Campus with a brief introduction and visual context before moving into the galleries for an extended exploration of the featured work. Guided by observation\, curiosity\, and conversation\, participants are encouraged to share ideas\, consider different perspectives\, and discover new connections together. \nThis week for Artful Conversations \nThe program will offer an in‑depth look at John Sloan’s Scavenger Rocks\, a recent acquisition that deepens our understanding of the artist’s long-standing ties to East Gloucester. The presentation begins with a brief overview of Sloan’s stays at the Red Cottage from 1914 to 1918\, a formative period that shaped many of his most compelling Cape Ann paintings. From there\, the talk turns to the granite outcropping near Niles Beach\, drawing on contemporary photographic documentation to illuminate the site’s distinctive forms and its role in Sloan’s artistic process\, offering a vivid\, tangible link between the artwork and the landscape that inspired it. \nDan Duffy and his wife Helene have been Innkeepers at the Beech Tree B&B in Rockport for 16 years. In this capacity\, he takes pride in serving as an ambassador of goodwill for travelers from around the world. He is passionate about showcasing our region’s rich history\, geographical uniqueness\, and artistic treasurers. As a Cape Ann Museum docent\, Dan uses his experience connecting with visitors while deepening his own knowledge of the Museum and of the region’s vibrant social and cultural history.

DESCRIPTION:Join Us Mid-Day for Artful Conversations \nTake a midday pause and experience one work of art in depth. \nArtful Conversations are informal\, docent-led gallery experiences that invite visitors to slow down\, look closely\, and engage in thoughtful conversation. Each session features a work of art or object that is new to view—whether a recent acquisition or a work newly installed in the galleries. \nThe program begins in the Education Room at our Downtown Campus with a brief introduction and visual context before moving into the galleries for an extended exploration of the featured work. Guided by observation\, curiosity\, and conversation\, participants are encouraged to share ideas\, consider different perspectives\, and discover new connections together. \nThis week for Artful Conversations \nThe program will offer an in‑depth look at John Sloan’s Scavenger Rocks\, a recent acquisition that deepens our understanding of the artist’s long-standing ties to East Gloucester. The presentation begins with a brief overview of Sloan’s stays at the Red Cottage from 1914 to 1918\, a formative period that shaped many of his most compelling Cape Ann paintings. From there\, the talk turns to the granite outcropping near Niles Beach\, drawing on contemporary photographic documentation to illuminate the site’s distinctive forms and its role in Sloan’s artistic process\, offering a vivid\, tangible link between the artwork and the landscape that inspired it. \nDan Duffy and his wife Helene have been Innkeepers at the Beech Tree B&B in Rockport for 16 years. In this capacity\, he takes pride in serving as an ambassador of goodwill for travelers from around the world. He is passionate about showcasing our region’s rich history\, geographical uniqueness\, and artistic treasurers. As a Cape Ann Museum docent\, Dan uses his experience connecting with visitors while deepening his own knowledge of the Museum and of the region’s vibrant social and cultural history.

The show will feature over 82 works from the 1920s to the 1960s\, with loans from 26 prominent national and private institutional collections\, including the National Gallery of Art in Washington\, D.C.\, which is a central partner lending 10 works by Mark Rothko to the exhibition. SUMMARY:Delta Generators with Julie Rhodes
DESCRIPTION:Real music by real people\, played live and recorded live. This best embodies the philosophy of\nestablished Boston band Delta Generators and their approach for their latest record ON & ON.\nIn an industry where technology has become the standard and intelligence has become artificial\,\nDelta Generators are keeping it real and will continue to do so going forward. All the songs on\nthis record were written\, arranged and rehearsed over a period of eight days and then recorded in\ntwo days at Power Station N.E. in Waterford\, CT by Evan Bakke\, best known for his work with\nWarren Haynes and Prince. The idea was to get together\, play and when something feels right\,\nwork it! No preconceived ideas as to what it should be. A journey of liberation\, inspiration and\nperspiration. Yeah\, Blues is the vehicle\, but their lifelong love of rock music is the fuel that\npowers it. \nBrothers Charlie and Rick O’Neal\, on guitar and bass respectively\, have been playing together\nsince their teenage years. Most notably as members of Benjamin Orr’s band\, former singer and\nbass player with The Cars. Sometimes they would go off and do other projects\, Charlie toured\nwith UK band Must and Rick played in Boston guitar hero Johnny A’s band\, but inevitably they\nwould play together again and again. Charlie had been playing in rock bands throughout\nhis early years\, but he was always a huge fan of Blues guitar. He spent years honing his abilities\nby playing along with records. When the opportunity presented itself for a Blues driven side\nproject\, he was all in. That moment altered his future\, placing him in the position to celebrate his\npassion for personal heroes like Elmore James\, Freddie King and Albert Collins. \nWhen the ensemble was first conceived\, a lover of R&B and Soul named Craig Rawding took\nthe mic as the original front man. Charlie O’Neal brought on his brother Rick as the bassist. And \nin 2007\, the Delta Generators were born. The initial drummer had to bail after a few months\, so\nup-and-coming percussionist Jeff Armstrong was brought into the fold. By 2008\, it was no\nlonger a side project\, and they captured the win at the Boston Blues Challenge. They went on to \nMemphis to compete in the International Blues Challenge where they almost took the top spot. \nFrom there the band went on to forge a solid place in the Boston Blues scene. They went on to\nrecord four records before Craig decided to leave the band in 2016. Enter Brian Templeton\, a\nfixture in the local scene since 1991. His band The Radio Kings had already recorded for two\nlabels\, and he had toured all across the U.S. and Europe with them and as a solo artist. A\nconsummate showman and lover of the spirit\, Brian was rooted in the rock music of his youth\nand was already a seasoned Blues Man. It was a perfect fit and the rest as they say is history.\n“Brian lifted the DGs to a new level with his showmanship and drive\,” says Charlie\, “I don’t\nthink the band would have continued if Brian hadn’t joined.” Brother Rick continues\, “Besides\nhis top-notch vocals\, Brian brought a powerful stage presence and killer harmonica playing to\nthe mix and his lyric writing is in a class all by itself.” \nThe new album is anything but vanilla. After all these years together\, the quartet has a voice and\nswagger that is all their own. The new repertoire is a pure collaboration that has captured what\nmakes this union of these four musicians so organic and pure in its creation. Drummer Jeff\nArmstrong shares\, “Unlike the previous record\, which was more of a compilation of great songs\,\nthis new record stands in itself as a complete cohesive work.” Guitarist Charlie O’Neal offers \, \n“ON & ON perfectly captures the live spirit of the band and is by far sonically superior to any of our previous albums.” \nDelta Generators love writing and recording but they live to play live. Making a connection with\ntheir fans is the most important part of it. As Templeton says. “Making a spiritual bond with the\npeople\, our fans\, is why we do what we do. There really is no other reason.”
