SUMMARY:The Meditations
DESCRIPTION:The Meditations – Ansel Cridland\, Danny Clarke and Winston Watson collectively known asThe Meditations\, recorded their first hit single Woman is Like a Shadow in 1974 at Channel One Recording Studio. The group made it’s mark and sealed their place as reggae legends withthe release of the first two albums Message From The Meditations and Wake up produced by Dobby Dobson. Soon after came the third album Guidance produced by Ansel Cridland.\nKnown the world over as Jamaica’s legendary harmony trio\, The Meditations captured the hearts of reggae fans around the world. This led to collaborations with Lee Scratch Perry. Scratch\, who produced for Bob Marley and the Wailers\, asked them to do back up vocals for Punky Reggae Party\, featuring Bob on led vocals. Bob Marley was so pleased with their harmony that he went in search for the group to do more back up vocals for him. It is said by many that “The Meditation is Bob Marley’s favorite group\,” which led to Bob requesting harmony and background vocals on songs like Rastaman Live Up and Blackman Redemption. The Meditations harmonic vocals can be heard on some of your favorite track such as\, Bongo Man Youths Them A Cry by Jimmy Cliffs\, Mr. Cop by Gregory Isaacs\, to name a few. In 1983 Linval Thompson produced The Meditations fourth album No More Friends. On this album all the lead vocals were sung by Ansel Cridland. Meanwhile Danny Clarke and Winston Watson later released For The Good Of Man. After some time separated Ansel begin to put the group back together with the release of Return Of The Meditations produced by Ansel in 1993 on Heartbeat record label.\nAnsel followed up producing and releasing Ghetto Knowledge on the Easy Star label in 1999\, then Stand In Love on his own label Meditations Music in 2004. As of late he as gone on to collaborate with yet another great Philip Smart for his latest album Dangerous Society\, which was released jointly by Meditations Music and Philip Smart in 2011. Ansel is a dedicated musician writing\, producing and releasing albums\, and still touring with the addition of DaddyLion Chandell and Toussaint Webb on harmony.

SUMMARY:Deric Dyer - Music & Stories from a Life of Touring with Tina Turner and Joe Cocker
DESCRIPTION:Deric Dyer was born in Ireland and lived in England until 1967\, when his trumpet-player father moved his family to Bermuda – where Deric’s musical career began. In Spring of 1975\, after meeting Cliff Goodwin and joining the American Standard Band\, Deric moved to America. Just two years later\, ASB would become Joe Cocker‘s band. Playing in Joe’s horn section with the legendary Bobby Keys\, “Rolling Stones\, Stevie Wonder” Deric quickly learned the art of Rock/R&B sax. This proved to be valuable experience for what was still to come in his career. After a couple of years of playing with Joe\, Deric left to play and record with many of the best of Boston’s music scene\, a highlight recording with Rick Ocasek of The Cars on his first solo album Beatitude. \nDeric’s next life-changing opportunity came in January 1987\, when he had the good fortune to audition for Rock And Roll Hall of Fame -Tina Turner. He spent an amazing two years as part of her Break Every Rule World Tour\, and when Tina was paired with Joe Cocker on Summer festival shows in Germany\, Deric and Joe rekindled their friendship. Deric wasn’t home long from TT tour when manager Michael Lang (Woodstock Promoter) called to ask if he would like to re-join Joe Cocker and the rest of the band for the Unchain My Heart World Tour. Deric jumped at the chance to revisit that special time in his career. \nDeric continued to tour with Joe throughout the 80’s\, 90’s\, and 2000’s\, as well as playing with Roger Hodgson\, Al Jarreau\, Tony Hadley and Andrea Bocelli. Belgium’s Night of The Proms reunited him with his Tina band mate (and the best man at his wedding)\, John Miles. In 2012 and 2013\, Deric was asked to take part in the John Lennon Double Fantasy Bermuda Tribute Concerts\, where he worked with Maxi Priest\, Biggie Irie\, Roy Young\, Uzimon and many amazing Bermudian artists to celebrate the music of John Lennon. \nTwo years after losing Joe\, arguably the greatest voice in Rock & Roll\, Deric reached out to his old friends to ask if they could come together again to help keep Joe’s music alive. Their answer was a resounding “YES!” and “Mad Dogs Unchained” was born. MDU went on to play Worcester’s Bull Mansion (among other New England venues)\, release an hour-long documentary video with a live CD\, and travel Europe for eighteen shows in 2018. \nDuring the pandemic\, Deric also collaborated with James Duncan and Tony Brannon to produce “Hope!” – a song for the time – with the goal of helping lift the spirits of people everywhere. \nDeric Produced the Trilbee Kings album. Working with Executive Producer Rich Kneeland\, Deric & Rich\, with some of the best musicians in the world\, headed of to Los Angeles to record at the famous Sunset Sound Studios. Deric plays soaring solos that adds the final\, rich sound to the T.K. Album. \nOn July 4th 2023 Deric performed in celebration of Tina Turner at New York City’s Macy’s/NBC fireworks display\, seen live by millions all over the world. Later that year was a special guest speaker at the Tina Turner Museum – West Delta Heritage Center Brownsville TN. Deric also rereleased Renaissance Man with the additional track “Tennessee Waltz” Sept 2023. \nThis September brings the release of Deric’s sixth album Red String. A beautiful mix of classic songs from Dylan “Make You Feel My Love” Lennon “Imagine” to Jim Webb “Wichita Lineman” Another captivating musical journey!

SUMMARY:Avery\, Gottlieb & Rothko: By the Sea
DESCRIPTION:“Avery\, Gottlieb & Rothko: By the Sea” explores the artistic bond between three pivotal 20th century American artists—Milton Avery (1885–1965)\, Adolph Gottlieb (1903–1974)\, and Mark Rothko (1903-1970)—whose shared summers in Gloucester\, Massachusetts\, from the 1920s to the mid-1940s had a lasting impact on their work. The exhibit is being presented through a collaboration between the Cape Ann Museum and The Phillips Collection (Washington\, D.C.). On view at the Cape Ann Museum from June 30 through September 27\, 2026\, the exhibition will then be displayed at The Phillips Collection from October 24\, 2026\, through January 24\, 2027. \nAs the first Cape Ann Museum generated show to then be taken on by another institution\, the Museum is working in close collaboration with all three artists’ estates. The show will feature over 82 works from the 1920s to the 1960s\, with loans from 26 prominent national and private institutional collections\, including the National Gallery of Art in Washington\, D.C.\, which is a central partner lending 10 works by Mark Rothko to the exhibition. Many works in this exhibition have never been on public view. \nThis unprecedented exhibit\, accompanied by a 224-page catalog produced by Rizzoli Electa\, will reveal the deep connections between these artists\, emphasizing their roles as both mentors and peers\, while showcasing the unique working methods and lifelong friendships that shaped their groundbreaking art. The catalog\, in addition to including essays by Eliza Rathbone\, will also feature contributions by prominent art scholars and curators. \nOrganized for the Cape Ann Museum by guest curator\, Eliza Rathbone\, Chief Curator Emerita of The Phillips Collection in collaboration with The Phillips Collection\, Washington\, D.C.
