SUMMARY:Local Colors Artist Cooperative to Celebrate 37 Years on Main Street
DESCRIPTION:Local Colors Artist Cooperative to Celebrate 37 Years on Main Street\nOn Friday\, November 6\, 2026\, from 6 to 8 p.m.\, Local Colors Artists’ Cooperative invites the\npublic to join in celebrating its 37th anniversary. Since 1989\, Local Colors has operated as an\nongoing center for creativity and commerce in downtown Gloucester.\nWhat does it take for a relatively small business to endure for nearly 4 decades? For Local\nColors’ member artists\, it means taking on the collective responsibility of maintaining a gallery\nand staying active on the Cape Ann art scene while upholding a commitment to their respective\nart forms.\nFor thirty-seven years!\nLocal Colors may defy the categorization of gallery or gift shop. For all of its years\, it has\nsupported artists’ growth in their art and in their business skills. One member\, well-known\nstained-glass artist Donna Amero\, is a founding member. At a recent meeting of the group\, she\,\nstated\, “We are not specifically a gallery or a gift shop. We’re an artists’ cooperative.” Kathy\nBucholska\, jeweler and mixed media artist added\, “As a 36-year member\, I am grateful to have\nhad the opportunity to develop my artistic skills here. It has been wonderful to have an outlet\nfor my jewelry and to expand into mixed media pieces using stones\, fossils\, and found objects.”\nNewer artist\, weaver Susan Alvey appreciates the creative blending involved in an artist\ncooperative. “As artists\, we usually work alone\, but a cooperative provides a supportive\ncommunity that is greater than we could create on our own.” The current membership of Local\nColors spans a wide range of media\, techniques\, subjects\, styles\, and attitudes\, and each artist\nbrings their own way of seeing to his/her chosen medium. The cooperative expands our\nappreciation of other art forms.\nCurrent artist members include: photographers Melissa Cox\, David Katz\, Skip Montello\, and Jim\nSousa; Jewelers Katherine Bagley\, Kathy Bucholska\, Annette Donnelly; painters Carey Jane\nConnor\, Pat Doherty\, Perry McIntosh; glass artists Donna Amero and Mary Woodall-Jappe; fiber\nartist Susan Alvey; ceramicists Peter Black\, Bessie Blum (who also works in mosaic and collage\nand fiber)\, Bob Kulchuk; and creative sculptors Liz Lovell and George Marinakis.\nAs they mark this anniversary\, Local Colors’ artists want to express their gratitude: to their\nguests\, customers\, and visitors\, and especially to the other artist members\, past and present\,\nfor their continued support and inspiration.\nIn addition to the November 6 celebration\, Local Colors will be participating in the City’s \n“From the Deep” event on Saturday\, November 7 with a variety of art demonstrations:\n11 am- 12:30 pm George Marinakis will show the construction of his driftwood sunbursts\n12:30 to 2:00 pm Many-media artist Bessie Blum will be demonstrating some simple mosaic\ntechniques with materials available for visitors' own make-and-take small mosaics while\n(limited) supplies last.\n2:00 to 3:30 pm Ingrid Jochimsen will show the construction of her layered wooden boxes.\n3:30 to 5:00 PM Susan Alvey will demonstrate winding a warp for weaving.\nAnd in the meantime\, Local Colors\, 121 Main St\, will be open daily from 10 am to 6 pm\, moving into its 38th year.

SUMMARY:Artful Conversations: John Sloan’s “Scavenger Rocks”
DESCRIPTION:Join Us Mid-Day for Artful Conversations \nTake a midday pause and experience one work of art in depth. \nArtful Conversations are informal\, docent-led gallery experiences that invite visitors to slow down\, look closely\, and engage in thoughtful conversation. Each session features a work of art or object that is new to view—whether a recent acquisition or a work newly installed in the galleries. \nThe program begins in the Education Room at our Downtown Campus with a brief introduction and visual context before moving into the galleries for an extended exploration of the featured work. Guided by observation\, curiosity\, and conversation\, participants are encouraged to share ideas\, consider different perspectives\, and discover new connections together. \nThis week for Artful Conversations \nThe program will offer an in‑depth look at John Sloan’s Scavenger Rocks\, a recent acquisition that deepens our understanding of the artist’s long-standing ties to East Gloucester. The presentation begins with a brief overview of Sloan’s stays at the Red Cottage from 1914 to 1918\, a formative period that shaped many of his most compelling Cape Ann paintings. From there\, the talk turns to the granite outcropping near Niles Beach\, drawing on contemporary photographic documentation to illuminate the site’s distinctive forms and its role in Sloan’s artistic process\, offering a vivid\, tangible link between the artwork and the landscape that inspired it. \nDan Duffy and his wife Helene have been Innkeepers at the Beech Tree B&B in Rockport for 16 years. In this capacity\, he takes pride in serving as an ambassador of goodwill for travelers from around the world. He is passionate about showcasing our region’s rich history\, geographical uniqueness\, and artistic treasurers. As a Cape Ann Museum docent\, Dan uses his experience connecting with visitors while deepening his own knowledge of the Museum and of the region’s vibrant social and cultural history.

SUMMARY:Delta Generators with Julie Rhodes
DESCRIPTION:Real music by real people\, played live and recorded live. This best embodies the philosophy of\nestablished Boston band Delta Generators and their approach for their latest record ON & ON.\nIn an industry where technology has become the standard and intelligence has become artificial\,\nDelta Generators are keeping it real and will continue to do so going forward. All the songs on\nthis record were written\, arranged and rehearsed over a period of eight days and then recorded in\ntwo days at Power Station N.E. in Waterford\, CT by Evan Bakke\, best known for his work with\nWarren Haynes and Prince. The idea was to get together\, play and when something feels right\,\nwork it! No preconceived ideas as to what it should be. A journey of liberation\, inspiration and\nperspiration. Yeah\, Blues is the vehicle\, but their lifelong love of rock music is the fuel that\npowers it. \nBrothers Charlie and Rick O’Neal\, on guitar and bass respectively\, have been playing together\nsince their teenage years. Most notably as members of Benjamin Orr’s band\, former singer and\nbass player with The Cars. Sometimes they would go off and do other projects\, Charlie toured\nwith UK band Must and Rick played in Boston guitar hero Johnny A’s band\, but inevitably they\nwould play together again and again. Charlie had been playing in rock bands throughout\nhis early years\, but he was always a huge fan of Blues guitar. He spent years honing his abilities\nby playing along with records. When the opportunity presented itself for a Blues driven side\nproject\, he was all in. That moment altered his future\, placing him in the position to celebrate his\npassion for personal heroes like Elmore James\, Freddie King and Albert Collins. \nWhen the ensemble was first conceived\, a lover of R&B and Soul named Craig Rawding took\nthe mic as the original front man. Charlie O’Neal brought on his brother Rick as the bassist. And \nin 2007\, the Delta Generators were born. The initial drummer had to bail after a few months\, so\nup-and-coming percussionist Jeff Armstrong was brought into the fold. By 2008\, it was no\nlonger a side project\, and they captured the win at the Boston Blues Challenge. They went on to \nMemphis to compete in the International Blues Challenge where they almost took the top spot. \nFrom there the band went on to forge a solid place in the Boston Blues scene. They went on to\nrecord four records before Craig decided to leave the band in 2016. Enter Brian Templeton\, a\nfixture in the local scene since 1991. His band The Radio Kings had already recorded for two\nlabels\, and he had toured all across the U.S. and Europe with them and as a solo artist. A\nconsummate showman and lover of the spirit\, Brian was rooted in the rock music of his youth\nand was already a seasoned Blues Man. It was a perfect fit and the rest as they say is history.\n“Brian lifted the DGs to a new level with his showmanship and drive\,” says Charlie\, “I don’t\nthink the band would have continued if Brian hadn’t joined.” Brother Rick continues\, “Besides\nhis top-notch vocals\, Brian brought a powerful stage presence and killer harmonica playing to\nthe mix and his lyric writing is in a class all by itself.” \nThe new album is anything but vanilla. After all these years together\, the quartet has a voice and\nswagger that is all their own. The new repertoire is a pure collaboration that has captured what\nmakes this union of these four musicians so organic and pure in its creation. Drummer Jeff\nArmstrong shares\, “Unlike the previous record\, which was more of a compilation of great songs\,\nthis new record stands in itself as a complete cohesive work.” Guitarist Charlie O’Neal offers \, \n“ON & ON perfectly captures the live spirit of the band and is by far sonically superior to any of our previous albums.” \nDelta Generators love writing and recording but they live to play live. Making a connection with\ntheir fans is the most important part of it. As Templeton says. “Making a spiritual bond with the\npeople\, our fans\, is why we do what we do. There really is no other reason.”

Rooted in the tradition of documentary photography\, Rearick distinguishes herself through her long-term relationships with the people and places she photographs\, including the Gloucester community. Through Baptism and related works\, she captures the importance of shared public spaces as places where people gather\, build connections\, create traditions\, and foster a sense of belonging. Her photographs reveal how community life unfolds over time\, preserving collective experiences and cultural memory. \nAlthough Miriam Weinstein has lived on Cape Ann for more than three decades\, she loves finding new places and new stories and sharing them with visitors. She was a painting major in college and thought of herself as a visual person until she became\, first\, a documentary filmmaker and then a journalist. Having spent the bulk of her professional life as a writer\, she now thinks she might be a word person after all. She was a staff member at North Shore Weeklies newspapers for many years. Her book\, Yiddish: A Nation of Words\, won the National Jewish Book award. Her book\, The Surprising Power of Family Meals gave her a platform to lecture and consult on the topic internationally. Miriam likes changing gears\, which fits well with CAM’s varied collection. She gives tours to adults\, family groups\, and kids. She enjoys moving quickly and making sure that everyone stays engaged. She loves the fact that tours can be very personalized. Each tour is different\, depending on the interests of the docent and the guests\, as well as the changing exhibits. Much like Cape Ann\, Museum visits are creative\, personable\, idiosyncratic\, and rich in beauty and history.
