SUMMARY:12/OC with Gavin Marengi
DESCRIPTION:12/OC got their start in the family kitchen of Portland\, Maine\, where brothers Will and Reid Nichols\, just 14 and 11 at the time\, first dove into country music through jam sessions and local open mic nights. What began as a backyard passion quickly grew into a regional movement\, with fans from all over taking notice. Their breakout moment came with a chart-topping single that held the No. 1 spot for 16 weeks on Maine’s premier country radio station\, cementing their status as rising stars. From there\, the accolades followed—most notably “Act of the Year 2025” at the New England Music Awards—solidifying their impact across the Northeast. Now\, 12/OC is taking things to the next level. \nGavin Marengi\, a prodigious country music singer-songwriter\, burst onto the scene with his debut album\, “Southbound\,” at the early age of 15. Now\, just two years later\, he’s already working on his third album\, with some of the industry best in Nashville. Continuing to captivate audiences with his heartfelt lyrics and soulful melodies. Gavin’s journey is a testament to his remarkable talent and dedication to his craft.

SUMMARY:Altan - St Paddy's Celebration
DESCRIPTION:The spirit and sound of Altan comes from the deep and rich musical tradition of their native Co. Donegal.\nOn one of his many visits to the Donegal Gaeltacht of Gaoth Dobhair\, Belfast born flute player Frankie Kennedy met fiddler and singer Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh\, sparking off a deep musical connection\, marriage in 1981\, and a journey that took them all over the world. Their vision was to bring the unique repertoire of Donegal music to the world and that mission is still as strong as ever. \nIn the mid 80s\, Mairéad and Frankie recruited bouzouki player Ciaran Curran from Fermanagh\, whose intricate counterpoint is at the centre of the Altan sound\, and guitarist Mark Kelly from Dublin\, whose mastery of a wide palette of guitar styles and harmonic vocabulary add a breadth and depth of colour. As a band\, Altan played their first concert on June 1st 1985\, in St. John’s Church in Listowel\, Co. Kerry at the famous Listowel Writers Week. \nTheir first album\, simply titled Altan was released in 1987 and quickly followed by Horse with A Heart\, which saw the inclusion of Paul O’Saughnessy on fiddle. Paul had joined the band on its first US tours\, lending his stunning virtuosity and in-depth knowledge of the Donegal style. He performed on the subsequent three albums. In 1992\, the album Harvest Storm brought with it Dáithí Sproule on guitar\, himself one of the pioneers of guitar in Irish traditional and folk music\, having played with the wonderful Skara Brae with the O’Domhnaill family and Buncrana native Ciaran Tourish who excelled in fiery counterpoint fiddle. \nOne of the band’s finest hours came with the release of Island Angel in 1993\, which was recognised by Billboard World Music Charts as the second biggest selling world music album globally in 1994 and in the same year\, Altan performed for Bill Clinton at the White House. The band would play for US Presidents over the course of their career as well as accompanying Irish Presidents on their state visits. Shortly after the release of this album\, the legendary accordionist Dermot Byrne joined the band. Sadly\, on September 19th\, 1994\, the band and wider world of music was dealt a devastating blow with the death of founding member Frankie Kennedy. His vision\, artistry and sense of fun is still at the heart of Altan and his legacy is carried and celebrated in every note. \nA record deal with Virgin Records followed in 1996\, which catapulted the band on an extensive touring schedule over the subsequent decade. This period saw them working with many of the great American performers such as Dolly Parton\, recording on her album Heartsongs (1994) and its follow up\, Little Sparrow 2001; she returned the favour on the band’s record The Blue Idol in 2002 by dueting with Mairéad on the song “The Pretty Young Girl”. \nThe band have traveled with President Mary MacAleese and President Michael D. Higgins on state visits abroad to Japan\, North Korea and Italy. President Higgins invited them to join him in his residence\, Áras an Uachtaráin in 2018 to celebrate their 30 years as a band. The Donegal County Council held a civic reception in their offices to mark the occasion in May 2018. In 2006 the Irish Government also honoured Altan by putting them on an official postal stamp to celebrate their contribution to the Irish culture one of the highest honours to be bestowed on an Irish citizen . \nMartin Tourish\, a past TG4 Young Musician of the Year\, took the accordion seat in late 2013 and the band recorded their album The Widening Gyre in Nashville with many of the great Bluegrass and American performers\, such as Mary Chapin Carpenter\, Jerry Douglas and Alison Brown. This album explored the connections between Irish and Bluegrass music\, a particularly special moment of which was performing at The Grand Ole Opry with Ricky Skaggs in 2016. \nIn 2017\, the band released their first book\, Altan: The Tunes\, based on a collection of 222 melodies that they collected recorded over their 30 year history. Martin Tourish transcribed the dance music and meticulously interviewed all the band members for additional stories and back- ground information. Containing a detailed commentary on each of the tunes\, it is the only collection of Donegal music currently in print. \nMairéad Ní Mhaonaigh was awarded Donegal Person of the Year in 2008 and the coveted TG4 Gradaim Ceoil (Music Award) 2017\, for her musicianship and singing. The highest accolade which a traditional musician can receive in Ireland. In celebration of the band’s latest album\, The Gap of Dreams\, the band has brought their music all over Europe and Ireland\, the US and Canada\, Japan\, Australia and North Africa. \nThe latest album celebrates the roots of their music in Donegal folklore. It was recorded in the Attica Studios in the mountains of Donegal which contributed to a wonderful atmosphere which permeated throughout the recording. The title refers to that ‘gap’ or ‘door’ between this and the ‘other world.’ The older fiddlers \, whom they got their music from\, always associated with the “other world” as the source for their music and inspiration. They would describe poetically about encountering the fairy folk or listening to tunes on the wind or on the shore listening to the sound of the waves. In creativity the “Gap of Dreams” is never shut.\nPremium Reserved Seating: $44.50 – $49.50 + $6.95 service fee\nReserved Seating $34.50-39.50 + $6.95 service fee\nGA Standing $24.50 + $4.95 service fee\n+ $5 Day of Show\n7:00pm Doors\, 8:00pm Show\n16+

SUMMARY:14th Annual Charles Olson Lecture
DESCRIPTION:In the 2026 Charles Olson Lecture\, James Cook will explore the ways that Gloucester has been a site of celebration\, interrogation\, explication\, negation\, and extension of Charles Olson’s work in the period from the near the end of the twentieth century (beginning with the Charles Olson Festival in August of 1995) through the first quarter of the twenty-first century. \nThe talk will highlight Gloucester as a nexus of activity where local and visiting writers\, artists\, and educators have engaged with Olson not to memorialize the man and the work but to find and question what “is of essential use.” In the talk\, Peter Anastas and Gerrit Lansing will figure prominently as guides\, beacons\, and exemplars who helped to create the conditions for a complex\, multi-faceted\, living engagement with Olson’s work. \nAs part of the program Amanda Cook\, author of Ironstone Whirlygig\, will read selections from her ongoing poem-by-poem response to The Maximus Poems\, much of which has appeared in the literary magazine SpoKe. David Rich\, author of Charles Olson: Letters Home (1949-1969)\, will provide context for Olson’s legacy in Gloucester and will participate in a Question & Answer session after the talk. \nJames Cook is an English teacher at Gloucester High School. He was a founding editor of the literary magazine Polis. His poems and essays have appeared in SpoKe\, Jacket2\, Let the Bucket Down\, Process\, and other small magazines. He has lectured on Olson previously\, most recently in a talk entitled “Harborside Civics Lessons: Gloucester Harbor in the Political Imagination of Gloucester Writers” delivered at the Jonathan Bayliss Society Conference in September of 2025. \nDavid Rich edited Charles Olson: Letters Home\, 1949-1969\, published by the Cape Ann Museum in 2010 in support of the Olson centenary. He has also lectured at the Cape Ann Museum on Olson\, Vincent Ferrini\, and Gloucester’s fishing history. \nAmanda Cook is sometimes in the water and sometimes underwater in Gloucester\, MA. She has been in a long conversation with Charles Olson for some time now. Her 2018 book Ironstone Whirlygig was published by Bootstrap Press. \nThe 14th annual Charles Olson Lecture is presented as a collaboration between the Cape Ann Museum and the Gloucester Writers’ Center.

SUMMARY:Dueling Pianos at The Cut
DESCRIPTION:Dueling Pianos is back. Bring your friends and have a Ball. Dueling Pianos is a massive “to the top of your lungs” sing along with all your friends! Two grand pianos are center-stage with a team of outrageously talented pianists that seem to know every song ever written. \nEach show is different because it’s all request. And you or your friends might get called up onstage for a bit of good humored fun and some unforgettable you-tube moments. These shows are request oriented\, interactive sing-a-longs wherein two piano players sit across from each other and trade songs. The dueling piano audience is used for the dueling aspect of the show. Audience members are pitted one-side-against-the-other. Examples of rivalries include country vs. rock\, men against women\, etc. \nDueling piano shows often take unexpected turns\, like involving wait staff members\, changing song lyrics or roasting popular audience members. There aren’t many boundaries. It’s one big sing-along party\, swaying to the music and bellowing-out familiar lyrics. You’re not just being entertained by the piano players – you are part of the show! \n“Think YOU won’t sing along? Just TRY not too…. I dare ya!”
