Half Moon Beach is a small, secluded beach tucked within the natural beauty of Stage Fort Park in Gloucester. Named for its crescent shape, this sheltered cove offers calm waters and a quiet escape from busier nearby beaches. Its cozy size and surrounding rocky cliffs create a sense of privacy that appeals to families, couples, and anyone looking for a peaceful seaside experience.
The beach is lifeguard-protected from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, with coverage daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.. The nearby Visitors Center offers restrooms and information, while the park grounds feature picnic areas, charcoal grill stations, walking trails, and scenic outlooks perfect for a post-beach stroll or cookout. It’s an ideal spot to spend the day immersed in Gloucester’s natural beauty and history.
Half Moon Beach is also accessible, with a concrete ramp leading down to the beach area to assist those using wheelchairs, strollers, or other mobility aids. Though small, the beach offers a safe and welcoming environment for young swimmers thanks to its enclosed cove and gentle surf.
Please note that alcohol, flotation devices, and inflatable objects are prohibited, and all park and beach rules are strictly enforced. Parking is available at Stage Fort Park for a daily fee, and the park’s location offers easy access to downtown Gloucester and nearby attractions like the Boulevard and Fishermen’s Memorial.
