Day One: Settle In & Experience the Coast

Day Two: History, Beaches & Ocean Views
After breakfast, spend your morning exploring one of Gloucester’s most iconic landmarks: Hammond Castle Museum. Perched dramatically atop the rocky coastline, this medieval-inspired castle was built by inventor John Hays Hammond Jr. and combines stunning architecture, ocean views, fascinating collections, and one-of-a-kind history. The castle’s stone passageways, courtyards, and seaside setting make it one of the most unique attractions anywhere on the North Shore.
From there, head to Wingaersheek Beach, famous for its soft white sand, calm waters, and expansive tidal flats that seem to stretch for hundreds of feet at low tide. After a few hours at the beach, head over to Rocky Neck Art Colony. One of the oldest artist colonies in the country, Rocky Neck is a must-visit summer destination in Gloucester with artist galleries and studios, seasonal exhibitions, and spectacular waterfront views. During the season, Cape Ann Harbor Tours runs a water shuttle between Harbortown and Rocky Neck, making easy (and beautiful!) to get across the harbor.
Cap off your evening with dinner on the water at 51 Rocky Neck. With specialty cocktails, fresh seafood, sandwiches, salads, and more, it’s the perfect spot to enjoy a meal by the water after a day of exploring Gloucester.
Day Three: Explore More of Cape Ann
Before heading home, take a short scenic drive to neighboring Rockport, one of New England’s most picturesque seaside villages. Wander the shops along Bearskin Neck, admire Motif No. 1, browse local art galleries, and enjoy the slower pace of this charming coastal town.
